Walmart is once again planning to acquire the VUDU peer-to-peer movie delivery service, despite earlier abandoning its online video initiatives. Originally a set-top box based service, VUDU recently transitioned to the task of providing back-end service to OTT ("over-the-top") content for connected CE devices from manufacturers such as LG, Mitsubishi, Samsung, SANYO, Sharp, Toshiba, and VIZIO.

According to an analysis provided by researcher Parks Associates, the entry of Walmart into the online video space could mean significant growth in the availability of Web-enabled consumer electronics products. The firm also indicated that revenue from premium video rentals and downloads through online services will grow to $8.4 billion by 2014.
