Twitter announced the acquisition of Tweetie, a leading iPhone Twitter client. According to the company, Tweetie will be renamed Twitter for iPhone and released for free through the iTunes AppStore. Loren Brichter, developer of Tweetie, will join Twitter's mobile team.
According to the social communications service, the company plans to focus increasingly on mobile applications on all possible platforms, including Apple's recently released iPad. The company indicated that more information would be forthcoming about the acquisition in the near future.
