OverDrive, Inc. has released 2011 statistics on library ebooks, audiobooks, and digital media from its Virtual Branch websites. The websites garnered 1.6 billion page views, up 130% from 2010. Similarly, the company reports nearly 100 million visitor sessions, a 107% increase over 2010.

The rise in ebook discovery and online reader visits is attributable to "rapid expansion of device compatibility and consumer awareness," the company said, adding that readers used OverDrive ebooks across several channels, including desktops, smartphones, and e-readers. The OverDrive Media Console, which offers free ebook and audiobook apps, was reportedly installed by 5 million users (up 84%), bringing the total install base to 11 million.

Mobile devices accounted for 22% of all checkouts, and there were 35 million digital titles checked out. OverDrive also added 300,000 titles to its catalog, bringing its offering to 700,000 copyrighted ebook, audiobook, music, and video titles in 52 languages. OverDrive claims a global network of 18,000 libraries and schools across 21 countries.
