Ovid Introduces PayPerView Service

Dec 09, 2003

Ovid, a provider of customizable medical information services, has announced the availability of its new PayPerView Service. This service is intended to enable researchers, clinicians, and students to purchase full text articles from Ovid's journal collection when their institutions have not purchased the rights to access those journals. PayPerView also extends Ovid's reach to offer important medical and health sciences content to non-Ovid subscribers.

With PayPerView, individuals will purchase full text journal articles from our bibliographic databases, Journals@Ovid database, and article reference links. This service is available on both the Ovid and SilverPlatter platforms. In addition, non-Ovid users can now purchase full text through external resources such as PubMed and the Microsoft Office System 2003. Once a user has located a bibliographic citation from a journal to which his/her institution does not subscribe, the user will have the option to select a -buy now- link, which will appear for any PayPerView licensed article. Upon credit card authorization, the article is presented and a link to the selected article is sent via email to the user; each article will remain accessible to the user for 24 hours. Pricing for articles varies based on individual publishers' copyright fees.
