NewsGator Technologies Inc. has announced a solution built on the NewsGator Enterprise Server (NGES). The offering is designed to enhance Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007 with social networking and collaboration capabilities. NewsGator Social Sites has introduced additional Enterprise 2.0 capabilities such as tagging and real-time AJAX interfaces within Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0 lists. NewsGator Social Sites 1.0 is designed to work with NGES 2.1 to help businesses turn SharePoint-based portals into an Enterprise 2.0 destination.

NewsGator Social Sites enhance collaborative capability of SharePoint with real-time interfaces including: Enterprise 2.0 functionality, NewsGator Social Sites are designed to enhance SharePoint lists such as tasks, calendars and announcements with Web 2.0 user interactions; Integrated presence, so that a user can immediately connect with any other user who has tagged or authored content; Improved interface and usability, brings AJAX responsiveness to SharePoint lists views; Simplified SharePoint team site navigation and content discovery, designed to enable site administrators to rollup content from sub sites into a top level team site or portal; Enhanced RSS capabilities, designed to allow users within the SharePoint environment to share and collaborate on content from external RSS feeds; and the ability to leverage the SharePoint security architecture.
