NY Times News Tracker Service Goes Fee-based

May 30, 2003

The New York Times News Tracker Service, released last year, has moved to a subscription-based model. The service delivers articles to a user's mailbox on subjects of their choosing. When an article is published on nytimes.com and matches the pre-selected criteria, the user receives an email alert including links to the full text article. There are currently three types of Times News Tracker Alerts. Times Topic Alerts are primarily subject-based and match articles that focus on the topic, not those that may mention it in passing. Keyword Alerts are based on words and phrases chosen by the individual user and can also track a particular columnist or reporter. Ticker Symbol Alerts track publicly traded companies. New and enhanced features of the service include ten customized alerts, a personal 90-day archive, breaking news alerts, customer service support, and an improved interface. The NY Times News Tracker subscription service will be offered at an introductory rate of $19.95 a year including a 30-day money back guarantee and a $10 gift certificate to the New York Times Store.
