SFR, Vodafone Group Plc, Giesecke & Devrient GmbH, and Gemalto NV will present a solution involving embedded SIM cards at the CARTES & IDentification congress in France on Tuesday, Nov. 15. The mobile industry quartet aims to demonstrate a new standard to better manage wireless devices.
Embedded SIMs can be built into various electronic devices and then activated both before and after the user has received their device. Mobile operators are able to remotely set up a customer's personal account on a device while reportedly maintaining end-to-end security.
The GSM Association aims to create a common standard for management of embedded SIMs. Manufacturers across multiple sectors would be able to design connected devices that will allegedly work on any network in any country.
