Macrovision Launches Patent Licensing Program for Optical Media Formats

Macrovision Corporation, a supplier of content and software value management solutions, has launched a licensing program for its VeriBIT patent family covering solutions embedded onto current and next-generation optical discs used to deliver software and multimedia content to PCs, media centers, game consoles, and network-connected digital appliances.

The VeriBIT worldwide patent licensing program is intended to enable software/game publishers and developers, content owners, independent software vendors, PC and CE manufacturers (including consoles and digital appliances), content-protection providers and optical media manufacturers to: Offer optical disc-based digital signature generation, original-disc authentication, data payload protection using obfuscation and application fading, secure pass-through access to data on the disc, and secure, authenticated disc-to-Internet web linking; Embed these technologies onto a range of optical media including CDs, DVDs (including high-definition DVDs), and next-generation optical media formats; and Use these technologies to securely deliver software, games, and standard and high-definition multimedia content to PCs, media centers, game consoles, and network-connected digital appliances (e.g. satellite-based navigation systems).
