Glam Media Acquires Ning, Enhances Social Platform

Glam Media, Inc., a social content platform company geared toward women, is acquiring Ning, an online social website building platform. With the acquisition, Glam Media plans to extend its social media platform, add new distribution channels, and leverage the talent from the Ning team to connect brands with customers.

Glam Media reportedly launched the first social blog community in 2005, and now works with more than 2,500 publishers, 4,000 authors, and 1,000 brand advertisers. Since 2004, Ning has been used to create more than 100,000 custom branded fan sites, along with online communities and social sites. Glam Media and Ning will provide their clients with the reach of suite of advertising, social, and content platforms.

In addition, joining Glam Media's board of directors is Marc Andreessen, the co-founder of Netscape Communications who currently serves on the boards of Facebook, HP, eBay and other technology companies.
