Approximately 18,000 geological maps from SEPM Society for Sedimentary Geology will be integrated into Elsevier B.V.'s web-based research tool Geofacets. Maps will be sourced from the Journal of Sedimentary Research, PALAIOS, the SEPM Special Publications series, and the Core Workshop Notes series.
Each publication focuses on sedimentary geological topics, such as petrography, diagenesis, and sequence stratigraphy. The addition of this information intends to help geoscientists understand the risks and opportunities of the subsurface of a region or basin being considered for oil and gas exploration. Geofacts customers can access data and tailor their views of a region or basin based on the elements that they are trying to understand.
The collaboration will enhance SEPM's publications' accessibility and provide Elsevier with more specialized information for geoscientists. This partnership follows Elsevier's collaboration last year with The Geological Society of London, which has given Geofacets customers access to the Lyell Collection.
