EBSCO Publishing Announces New Products

EBSCO Publishing has announced the release of Consumer Health Complete (CHC). The company has also announced the availability of The Music Index through the EBSCOhost platform and the availability of LISTA (Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts, as well as a redesign of its customer support site.

Consumer Health Complete is a resource for consumer-oriented health content. CHC provides content covering areas of health and wellness from mainstream medicine to the perspectives of complementary, holistic, and integrated medicine. This full text database covers topics such as aging, cancer, diabetes, drugs & alcohol, fitness, nutrition & dietetics, men's & women's health, and children's health. Consumer Health Complete offers a search interface designed to call attention to the full text content available from source-types as well as provide a means for searching this information. CHC includes a collection of consumer health encyclopedias & reference books (many available only through CHC). In addition, this database offers access to 4,100 evidenced-based full text health reports written for the layperson covering diseases, conditions, injuries, and procedures. CHC also includes full text for more than one thousand consumer health pamphlets & leaflets from various organizations. Cover-to-cover full text is provided for nearly one thousand health-related periodicals as well as selected articles from thousands more. Many drug information resources including Clinical Pharmacology are included in CHC. This database also serves as a collection of full text alternative health resources designed for the layperson. In addition, 5,000 Spanish-language health reports and a Spanish-language health newswire are provided.

EBSCO has also announced the availability of The Music Index through the EBSCOhost platform. The Music Index contains surveyed data from more than 725 international music periodicals from over 40 countries in 23 languages. Topics concerned with the classical and popular world of music are categorized and organized according to the framework of an internal Subject List, which includes both Subject and Geographic headings. The Music Index duly cites book reviews, obituaries, new periodicals, as well as news and articles about music, musicians, and the music industry.

Finally, EBSCO has announced the availability of LISTA (Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts. This library science database is available to any library, college/university, K-12 school, hospital, corporation, or other interested party at no cost. LISTA is designed and offered to support areas of librarianship such as cataloging, classification, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, and information management. LISTA provides indexing & abstracts for more than 600 periodicals plus books, research reports and proceedings. The database includes coverage dating as far back as the mid-1960s. EBSCO's intention is to provide free access to LISTA on a continual basis.

LISTA will soon add profiles for nearly 3,000 authors covered in the database. LISTA's author profiles will include author name, contact information, and credentials as well as journals included in the database where the author was published, and subject headings used to represent the author's articles in the database. These profiles can help users to decipher the value of authors' knowledge in given subject areas through a look into their collections of works appearing in LISTA. Any EBSCO database customer may also add LISTA to their current EBSCOhost profile.

The company has also announced the availability of its redesigned customer support Web site. This new site adds navigation and builds upon the existing collection of resources while also expanding the range of services offered to include more information. EBSCO will provide an expanded searchable "Knowledge Base" of "frequently asked questions". A repository of Macromedia Flash tutorials provides customers with tools for educating new database users. Downloadable product-specific help sheets, Marketing Summaries, Thematic Units and Complete User Guides are also available. Several new features have been added to the Web site to improve the flow of information and ease of use. The most popular Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are located on the main page of the support site. Access to information has been streamlined by the organization of content under new navigational boxes. The Web site now features enhanced searching capability including a global site search as well as Knowledge Base searching functionality allowing the user to find specific tools within a specific topic. In addition, the new site provides a direct link to EBSCO's Customer Success Center, featuring library tools, best practice stories, marketing support, and more.
