Adobe has announced that beginning April 21, 2004 the company will discontinue Adobe FrameMaker software for the Apple Macintosh operating system. Adobe FrameMaker 7.1 will continue to be available on Microsoft Windows and the Sun Solaris platforms. Complimentary Warranty Support and Adobe Expert Support (fee-based technical support) for FrameMaker on Macintosh will be available for approximately one year running through April 21, 2005.
The decision to discontinue FrameMaker on the Macintosh operating system was based on the market conditions for FrameMaker. According to the company, the majority of Adobe's customers use FrameMaker on Microsoft Windows and the Sun Solaris platforms. Adobe is continuing Macintosh development for its flagship print and Web publishing solutions, such as the Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign CS, Photoshop CS, Illustrator CS, GoLive CS, and Acrobat.
Customers, partners, and distributors have been notified of the change. Adobe FrameMaker 7.0 for Macintosh will be available to distributors and licensing customers through the Adobe Store until April 21, 2004. Adobe will honor Adobe Expert Support (fee-based technical support) contracts for the Mac version until they expire. Adobe Open Option (AOO) maintenance contracts can no longer be ordered.
