Wordmap And Mohomine Announce Strategic Relationship, Launch Integrated Taxonomy Solution |
Mohomine Inc, a provider of text processing automation software, and Wordmap Limited, developers of taxonomy management systems, have announced a strategic technology relationship and the launch of a fully integrated solution for classification and enterprise taxonomy management. Wordmap's Taxonomy Management System allows organizations to tag content effectively by storing consistent metadata terms. It powers navigation interfaces, with a security layer that allows personalized navigation views to be served to multiple users and groups. Multiple language versions of taxonomies are supported. The taxonomy also plays an important part in application integration. Unless organizations use consistent terminology in all of their applications, integration efforts will not succeed. Through working with taxonomy users such as Factiva, Wordmap has the wide range of features and scalability needed to satisfy enterprise requirements. Mohomine's MohoClassifier is an auto-categorization solution built using "learn-by-example"/machine learning technology. Mohomine's language-independent, patented algorithms provide accuracy and performance, and can be quickly deployed and modified. By deploying the MohoClassifier, organizations can access formerly inaccessible information to drive business intelligence and text analytics, enable employees to focus on high-value activities vs. low-value sorting and routing tasks, and reduce costs while increasing work force productivity. The combined solution is available in the Americas from Mohomine Inc, and in EMEA from Wordmap Ltd. (http://www.mohomine.com), (http://www.wordmap.com) |

IBM Helps National Geographic Create Photography Ecommerce Site |
IBM has announced that it is working with the National Geographic Society to digitizing more than 10,000 of its images of culture, adventure, and nature and to make them commercially available worldwide. Based on IBM ebusiness software and hardware infrastructure technology, the new on-demand ebusiness solution will expand and enhance National Geographic's IT infrastructure through a new B2B Web site located at www.ngsimages.com. As a result of the new solution, National Geographic hopes to enable customers worldwide, including advertising agencies, corporate marketing departments, and international publishers, to view, select, purchase, and download images directly from their desktops. National Geographic's on-demand solution is based on WebSphere Commerce for Digital Media, software that allows customers to search the archive and to purchase images securely over the Internet. In addition, IBM's Content Manager and DB2 database software will serve as the repository enabling them to search, access, and analyze thousands of media assets. The solution will be based on e-Server pSeries. Additionally, IBM's digital asset management system solution for publishing, Networked Interactive Content Access (NICA), will be used to implement some future digitization projects at the Society. Initially the new site will house more than 10,000 photographs; National Geographic anticipates adding as many as 3,000 new images each year for commercial use. UK's National Endowment for Science, Technology, and The Arts Selects Rhythmyx Content Manager |
Percussion Software has announced that the United Kingdom's National Endowment for Science, Technology, and the Arts (NESTA)'s newly redesigned Web site has "gone live" with Rhythmyx Content Manager. NESTA, created by the British government in 1998 to discover, develop, and fund innovative science, technology, and art projects, uses its Web presence as the primary marketing and communication tool for reaching applicants, awardees, philanthropists, the media, and the public. In conjunction with its mission to nurture and encourage talented individuals to stay in the UK, NESTA's Web presence is used to foster public education and innovation. NESTA also uses its Web site to solicit and receive applications from interested individuals for funding new projects. Aided by Percussion's Rapid Ownership program, a knowledge transfer methodology, NESTA's team worked with Percussion's consultants on an aggressive schedule to deploy and implement Rhythmyx across its enterprise. Faced with several hundred individual designs for the site's content pages, NESTA used Active Assembly to minimize development by creating flexible templates, each of which could accommodate multiple page layouts. Rhythmyx functionality includes: Active Assembly, which allows business-level producers to group and arrange content into Web pages and documents, without requiring new templates; a Web services layer that enables content authors to use their existing content creation tools and provides integration with external delivery systems; and a configurable, engine-based architecture that facilitates the production and aggregation of content while minimizing the need for custom coding. Endeavor Launches LinkFinderPlus 3.0 Advanced Linking System for Libraries |
Endeavor Information Systems has released enhanced software for libraries to extend their electronic database collections with the latest commercial release for LinkFinderPlus. Endeavor's advanced linking system bridges the gap between citations and the online full-text of articles, in an effort to provide maximum usage of the library's electronic journal subscriptions. Library staff will find increased productivity in making resources available for researchers. LinkFinderPlus 3.0 includes batch activation of the LinkFinderPlus Knowledge Base and batch maintenance of the Knowledge Base post-implementation. Delivered with over 13,000 targets to link to full-text and abstracts for citations, the LinkFinderPlus Knowledge Base is designed for minimal staff maintenance once the library activates their local subscriptions. Additionally, LinkFinderPlus 3.0 allows libraries to enable immediate access to electronic journals as they become available with a local option to add journal sites. Libraries can now customize the LinkFinderPlus 3.0 display to match the libraries' local look and feel; ensuring researchers find a smooth transition to full-text of articles. Interoperability with CrossRef, a not-for-profit network founded on publisher collaboration is now available. This makes reference linking efficient and reliable, and enables LinkFinderPlus users to link with CrossRef for the resolution of DOIs sent using the OpenURL proposed standard. This allows the LinkFinderPlus software to consider the local library's subscriptions and preferences before generating links to full text. (http://www.crossref.org), (http://www.endinfosys.com) |
