A few months ago, Autonomy announced its plans to acquire CA's (formerly Computer Associates) Information Governance assets. This was a surprising acquisition from two angles: first that CA saw so little value in this division that the company decided to dump it, and secondly that Autonomy, which has overlapping technologies, felt the need to buy still more overlapping technologies.

DotNetNuke Corp. released the Enterprise Edition of its widely-used DotNetNuke content management platform. The release includes the new DotNetNuke Content Staging feature, which lets users edit and approve content on a staging server prior to publishing the content on the live site. Also new to the release is the Content Localization feature, which simplifies the management of multi-language web sites.

Ektron Inc. announced a new software product that integrates Facebook with corporate websites. The new tool is part of Ektron's Marketing Optimization Suite, which is designed to simplify the personalization of a website. Ektron's Facebook Social Targeting Software allows marketers to match social behavior to relevant experiences on a corporate website, allowing them to personalize product recommendations, offers, promotions, and other types of content to site visitors.

IBM is set to acquire Unica Corporation, a publicly held marketing software company based in Waltham, Mass. Unica will be acquired by IBM at a rate of $21 per share, or a rough net total of $480 million.

These technologies are being developed by the same people who originally created the World Wide Web. They are called semantic technologies, and are currently being explored, improved, and applied to healthcare in a movement known as Health 3.0.

StoredIQ, a creator of compliance, information management, and ediscovery solutions, announced that its Intelligent Information Management (IIM) Platform is now compatible with the Microsoft File Classification Infrastructure (FCI) technology included in Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2. StoredIQ says that this new compatibility will allow IIM to combine its resources with Microsoft's own data-classification technology.

IBM and North Carolina State University (NC State) have teamed up for a project designed to accelerate the speed with which the inventions of NC State researchers transition from the laboratory to the greater marketplace, spurring economic growth in the process. NC State plans to accomplish this by making use of IBM's advanced analytics technology to more effectively match university research projects with potential investment opportunities.

IBM has announced its acquisition of Datacap, Inc., a private company based in Tarrytown, N.Y. Datacap specializes in software that helps organizations order and streamline the flow of business information in order to reduce hidden costs and errors. IBM intends to make use of Datacap's assets and technologies in order to improve its own ability to help organizations digitize and manage their information.

Adobe Systems Incorporated and Day Software Holding AG entered into a definitive agreement for Adobe to acquire all of the publicly held registered shares of Day Software, thereby acquiring the company. The transaction is valued at approximately $240 million, based on current exchange rates.
