Data Conversion Laboratory (DCL), an industry provider in organizing and converting content into digital formats, announced the start of the second phase of the Scopus Cited References Expansion Program. To date, DCL has converted and enriched 3.7 million Elsevier, American Physical Society (APS), and Springer articles with more than 80 million cited references. On the morning I wrote this, I used 10: email, Evernote, GitHub, Slack, Google Docs, InDesign, text messaging, Basecamp, Excel, and (gulp!) Word. I use these tools interchangeably under the guise of organization. However, if I track back to my digital production schedule 10 years ago, InDesign, Excel, Word, and email were my only writing/communication tools. Even though the technology is streamlined, I'm using twice as many tools to accomplish the same core tasks that I did 10 years ago.

The web CMS industry is celebrating its 20th birthday this year, but not all challenges are resolved yet. And that includes internationalization, globalization, and localization of content. In 2012, Common Sense Advisory surveyed more than 2,400 consumers in eight countries. It asked about the importance of users interacting with websites in their native language. It found that 42% of respondents said they never purchase products and services described in a foreign language. And 56.2% said the ability to find info in their own language is more important than price.
