According to new survey data from Constant Contact, Inc., small business owners are evaluating their technology tools through an engagement lens. Over half (60%) of respondents said online survey tools were the most effective at engaging existing customers, followed closely by digital loyalty tracking systems (56%), with customer relationship management systems (46%), email marketing (45%), and contact management tools (38%) rounding out the top five responses.

Facebook's January announcement for fourth quarter 2012 revealed 1.06 billion monthly active users on the site and, with those numbers, marketers expect their reach to be vast within the social network. Instead, they were disappointed. Google announced an upgrade to its AdWords program through enhanced campaigns. As the folks at Google put it: "This is a first step to help you more simply and smartly manage your ad campaigns in today's multi-device world." The new enhanced campaigns will allow a company to serve different ads to different people based on not only their search terms, but on their context as well - such as their device and location. A "mobile preferred creative" option will make this possible. In the past, a user would have to set up separate campaigns.

OpenX Software Ltd., a provider of digital and mobile advertising revenue products and services, announced it has completed a $22.5 million Series E funding round. This brings the total investment in OpenX to more than $70 million. New investor Samsung Venture Investment Corporation led the round. Existing investors Accel Partners, Index Ventures, SAP Ventures, Mitsui & Co. Global Investment, Inc., and Presidio Ventures also participated in the round. OpenX will use the funds to further accelerate growth, finance additional acquisitions, expand internationally and broaden adoption of its digital revenue platform.
