With YouTube's 400 hours of content uploaded every minute and Snapchat and Facebook's 4 billion video views per day (each!), digital video is only getting more popular. While individual milestones are important, so are the overarching trends in the online video industry as it moves forward.

The research looks at the value organizations place on video and demonstrates the importance of video communication skills for today's workforce. The survey also finds that employee-generated video content is expected to become an important business tool within the next three years.

The update features an improvement of the Android video broadcasting capabilities, allowing users to enjoy improved connection stability as well as certain broadcast features that were previously unavailable for Android -- such as the ability to flip between the front-facing and rear-facing camera mid broadcast.

A new iteration of Forbidden's professional video editing software, Forscene, will be released on Nov. 24 and will be immediately available to all clients of the post-production platform. The functionality introduced in this release enables new Avid workflows and aims to increase efficiencies on multitrack productions. Forscene says many of the new features were requested by longtime client Princess Productions.

LG Smart TV announced it will launch selected channels from Opera TV's portfolio in eight markets: the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, USA, Mexico and Brazil. The first phase of the Opera TV launch will include up to 18 channels in each country with thousands of videos ranging from movies and TV series, music, sports, news, lifestyle, nature and travel. More channels will be added periodically, representing a significant opportunity for video content owners to reach LG's vast audiences.

In November Disney will launch a subscription service in Europe called DisneyLife. The service, which will allow users access to shows and movies that are not available through providers like Netflix, will come to other markets in 2016.

Tuesday was a big day for YouTube. It announced a subscription streaming service, as well as a music streaming app. The membership is called YouTube Red and costs $9.99 per month for desktop, Android, and $12.99 per month on iOS. Eventually it will include access to exclusive content, and features a "save" feature.

In early May, an important milestone was reached that signals a sea change in how consumers prefer to access their favorite content: Among Comcast customers, the number of internet subscribers surpassed cable TV subscribers for the first time. Granted, the majority of that bandwidth is not being used to post to Facebook or shop on Amazon. It's predominantly the pipeline for streaming video. Consider that, globally, IP video traffic will comprise 79% of all consumer internet traffic in 2018, up from 66% in 2013, per Cisco.
