Despite popular belief around the growing Millennial workforce's reliance on mobile and social channels, survey findings show these digital natives are influenced by similar sources as their generational predecessors. What's more, they have significant influence in the B2B buying cycle. In fact, the millennial generation takes the lead in decision-making power for B2B purchases and has research power when short-listing technology solutions, according to a survey released by Arketi Group, a high-tech B2B PR and digital marketing firm.

For the past few weeks, I've been super stressed out. It's not because of work or money or any of the normal reasons people lose sleep. I'm stressed because it's 2016-an election year-and it seems to me that the whole country has gone off the deep end. Given the current political climate and how messy the primaries have been so far, the 2016 general election is not shaping up to be a quiet or calm one, no matter who the candidates are. It'll be a spectacle. And, thanks to the social media generation, that's just the way we like it.

While one of the most publicized instances was Amazon's Jeff Bezos purchasing The Washington Post, other prominent acquisitions have occurred in recent years: Boston Red Sox owner John W. Henry snatched up the Boston Globe; Wellesley businessman Aaron Kushner bought the Orange County Register and six other dailies; Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes acquired the New Republic; hotelier Doug Manchester pocketed the San Diego Union-Tribune; Warren Buffett lined his portfolio with dozens of local papers, such as the Roanoke Times and Press of Atlantic City; Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor gobbled up the Star Tribune; Alice Rogoff, wife of billionaire David Rubenstein, land-ed the Anchorage Daily News (now Alaska Dispatch News); Las Vegas business titan Sheldon Adelson procured the Las Vegas Review-Journal; and Jack Ma bought the South China Morning Post.

This past weekend, I found myself in a Barnes and Noble in midtown Manhattan, strolling up and down the Self-Help aisle, browsing through hundreds of book titles. No, I wasn't looking for myself (although some of the books seemed really quite interesting), I was doing trend research for my day job (book publishing), trying to pinpoint which titles were attracting shoppers and which were getting overlooked. As you can imagine, the Self-Help shelf is a mix of topics ranging from relationships to mental health to inspiration. But there was one word that stuck out time and again, no matter the subject matter: mindfulness.

You probably read Medium, but you may not know it. The blogging platform (of sorts) is the brainchild of Twitter co-founder Ev Williams. Up until now, it has focused on giving anyone the free and easy-to-use tools needed to publish to the web--only without the pressure of maintaining and regularly posting to a blog. It also promotes interactivity from readers-letting them highlight passages, and become a part of the conversation in the comments. Now, though, Medium is taking aim at Wordpress-and other WCM systems--and trying to entice publishers to its service.

At this point, almost everyone has heard that Internet pioneer, Yahoo, is in trouble. The company has allowed itself to become completely distracted by a lot of activities that had little to do with the foundational elements of the company, and has, instead, turned its attention to attempting to unlock shareholder returns relative to its stake in Chinese ecommerce giant Alibaba. As a result of the shortcomings of its well-intentioned, but poorly executed acquisition strategy, along with some controversial management decisions, the company is now exploring "strategic alternatives" for the "core" of its business. The play it is pursuing now is essentially the only one it has that makes sense to save what remains of what most people know of as Yahoo -- or at least package it for a potential acquirer (a public strategic or private equity buyer).

Even if you missed the Time Magazine cover article last August, weren't able to attend CES 2016, or have overlooked the countless headlines, posts and tweets about it over the past several months, it's hard to ignore the facts: Virtual reality is a reality, and VR technology has captured the awe and imagination of consumers hungry for a disbelief-suspending computer-rendered simulation of the real and the fantastic. And the exciting prospect for digital publishers and electronic content providers both large and small? VR offers viable, affordable content possibilities beyond gaming and simulated thrill experiences, which is where a lot of the early tech investment dollars have been funneled. In fact, it's VR's capacity to seriously infiltrate into offbeat and unexpected niches that has a lot of industry experts paying closer attention.
