Sequent Software, a provider of NFC (near field communication) software and systems, closed a round of series A financing that saw participation from Opus Capital and SK Telecom Ventures. The company plans to use the financing to drive commercial NFC mobile payment deployments.

DigiMo announced the completion of its mobile payment solution, which requires no software or hardware change to point-of-sale (POS) systems or mobile devices including cell phones, tablets, and smartphones. Customers register online, supplying their billing information and phone numbers, and then receive a PIN which allows them to pay at any participating retailer.

Zoho announced the addition of five more applications to the Google Apps Marketplace. Zoho Creator, Zoho Discussions, Zoho Meeting, Zoho Reports and Zoho Wiki have all been added to Google's app marketplace, making Zoho one of the largest software providers for Google's online storefront for Google Apps and services.

Adobe announced that the Creative Suite 5.5 release would feature advancements in mobile application development tools, including new tooling and framework support in Flash Builder 4.5, which enables mobile app development, testing, and deployment on Android, BlackBerry Tablet OS and iOS platforms. Adobe partnered with Zend Technologies to deliver the Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP software.

AT&T agreed to acquire T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom for $39 billion of combined cash and stock. According to AT&T, the acquisition provides the network assets necessary to add capacity, and it will offer the carrier an opportunity to improve network quality for customers of both AT&T and T-Mobile.

The pilot projects for these applications were presented at CeBIT 2011, the international information and communications technology trade show hosted in Hannover, Germany, March 1-5 this year.

Kalio Inc., formerly D.M.insite, will introduce an application for mobile ecommerce. The KalioMobile application will unify mobile and online retail sites, because online retailers will not need to create a separate mobile infrastructure. Instead, "customers can manage their mobile site as an extension of their primary website," according to Kalio co-founder and chief executive officer Larry Kavanagh.

According to figures released by DisplaySearch, Apple is now the dominant seller of mobile computers based on units sold, thanks in large part to sales of its popular iPad tablet. The company sold a total of 10.2 million mobile computers (which includes both laptops and tablets) during the fourth quarter of 2010, seizing 17.2% of the total market. Its nearest competitors were HP and Acer, which held shares of 15.6% and 14% respectively.
