Apple has sold out of initial supplies of the new iPad in every country where the tablet is slated to launch Friday. New orders will not ship for up to 3 weeks, the company told buyers. In the U.S. and Canada, pre-orders placed through Apple will ship March 19.

The announcement of the new iPad, new Apple TV, and a handful of software upgrades were not huge surprises. Thanks to our 24/7 tech news sleuths and a constant flow of tweets, photos, and videos, even monks halfway around the world knew we would see a new iPad with refreshed processor, stunning Retina display and a better camera. But the most interesting thing about this recent news is not either of the devices, but the ramifications that these latest post-PC gadgets bring.

eMarketer, Inc. released a report that estimates U.S. mobile advertisers spent $1.45 billion in 2011, up 89% from $769.6 billion in 2010. This year, U.S. mobile ad spending will grow another 80%, reaching $2.61 billion, the company predicts, in an upward trend that will not slow down.
