EBSCO Publishing released 26 new ebook subject sets, which span arts and humanities, business and economics, information technology, personal growth and how-to, social sciences, science and technology, and foreign language. The subject sets are prepackaged sets of titles chosen specifically to meet libraries' needs for new titles focusing on popular, in-demand topics, designed to help libraries easily begin or expand their ebook collections.

Beginning in 2011, Springer and the Brazilian Physical Society (SBF) will collaborate to publish the society's official publication, the Brazilian Journal of Physics. The journal presents research on a variety of topics in physics, both from scientists based in Brazil and elsewhere in the world.

Gale, part of Cengage Learning, and Portico, a part of the not-for-profit organization ITHAKA, announced that Gale will be preserving three additional digital historical collections with Portico. This follows the completed adoption of 10 Gale Digital Collections, including 19th Century U.S. Newspapers, The Making of Modern Law: Primary Resources and Eighteenth Century Collections Online. The collection represents over 80 million files, which doubled the size of the Portico archive in just one year.

An agreement between EBSCO and IGI Global will allow metadata for 131 journals and more than 1,500 reference books to be added to the base index of EDS. IGI Global is an international publishing company that specializes in scholarly research publications and databases. Metadata that will be available via EDS includes IGI Global's peer reviewed journals, which focus on information/computer science and technology applied to business and public administration, engineering, education, medicine and healthcare, and social sciences.

Online reference service Credo Reference signed an agreement to expand the M.E. Sharpe content available through its platform. Users will now have access to the added content as a Credo Reference Publisher Collection and the forthcoming Subject Collections. M.E. Sharpe publishes social sciences and humanities resources, including titles in economics, political science, management and public administration, history, and literature.

EBSCO and Credo Reference are extending their partnership allowing the reference content from Credo Reference to be discoverable within EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). Metadata from Credo General Reference, Credo Topic Pages, and Publisher Collections will be added to the EDS Base Index, providing reference content and overviews of top research topics within discovery.

Springer Science+Business Media is expanding its open access offerings with the acquisition of 12 journals from Hindawi Publishing Corporation, a commercial publisher of peer-reviewed journals covering a wide range of academic disciplines. The journals include seven titles published in cooperation with the European Association for Signal Processing, as well as four mathematics journals and one medical journal. The takeover of the twelve journals is scheduled for the end of March.

Three journals from Springer's Chinese Library of Science (CLoS) will be published as open access journals on SpringerOpen. This year Chinese Science Bulletin and Science China Life Sciences, co-published with Science China Press (SCP), and Photonic Sensor, co-published with the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, will be available in the SpringerOpen portfolio.

Google simultaneously announced and released Google One Pass, a new service from the search giant that lets publishers dictate pricing and subscription models for accessing digital content. The service is designed to allow users to access their content on tablets, smartphones, and desktops, using a single sign-on. The service can also accomodate existing subscribers.

Elsevier and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) reached an agreement to automatically deliver the metadata of 90 J-STAGE journals in SciVerse Scopus. JST has been utilizing Scopus custom data to analyze scientific research in Japan at a national level.

Wiley-Blackwell is partnering with the American Counseling Association to publish their ten formerly self-published journals, beginning in 2012. The Association, which currently manages nineteen chartered divisions and has nearly 45, 000 members, currently manages Adultspan Journal, The Career Development Quarterly, Counseling and Values, Counselor Education and Supervision, The Journal of Addictions & Offender Counseling and several other journals.

Gale, part of Cengage Learning, is completing its line of AccessMyLibrary apps with the release of the College and School editions of its Android applications. The apps join the AccessMyLibrary School Edition application for the iPad, which became available in early January. These most recent additions make Gale library resources accessible from all the major mobile device platforms.

Content creation company Demand Media debuted on the New York Stock Exchange under the stock symbol DMD. The debut comes after a successful IPO that brought the company $151.3 million. The company owns a portfolio of content websites that includes eHow, Cracked.com, and GolfLink.com, and was founded in 2006 by former Myspace chairman Richard Rosenblatt.

Gale, part of Cengage Learning announced the release of British Literary Manuscripts Online, Medieval and Renaissance, the second installment of the British Literary Manuscripts Online series. Following the release of the first installment in May 2009, this additional digital archive brings nearly 565,000 pages of unique author manuscripts into the hands of students, educators and researchers.
