STM publisher Wiley-Blackwell formed a new partnership beginning in 2012 with the TESOL International Association (TESOL) to publish its two journals, TESOL Quarterly and TESOL Journal, both of which are currently self-published by the association. First published in 1967, TESOL Quarterly publishes papers on topics of signi?cance to individuals concerned with English language teaching and learning.

Five months after its acquisition of ebrary, ProQuest is linking the two companies' search platforms to enable users to discover ebooks in the context of their libraries' ProQuest content and use tools from both environments. The platform is rolling out in libraries around the world, and it adds a flexible technological architecture that lets users look deeper into multiple content sources in multiple formats.

Springer announced its 50th SpringerOpen journal, the International Journal of Disaster Risk Science (IJDRS. The journal focuses on issues in disaster science and risk management and is being fully sponsored by the Beijing Normal University. The open access initiative SpringerOpen was launched one year ago with the goal of expanding open access to more disciplines within the science, technology, and medicine fields. Most of the newly launched SpringerOpen journals derive from the fields of engineering, medicine and mathematics.

Elsevier expanded its offering to researchers by adding full text from its SciVerse ScienceDirect database to EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) as well as the Ex Libris Primo Central Index. In other Elsevier news, the company expanded its SciVal Funding tool to users in Canada, U.K., and European Union, with plans to expand to Australia, Singapore, South Africa, India, New Zealand, and Ireland by the end of 2011.

Cengage Learning announced an expanded partnership with the National Geographic Society through which it will acquire the National Geographic Society's digital and print school publishing unit. The new agreement also allows Cengage Learning a wider use of the National Geographic Society brand and content.

ProQuest linked ebrary's search platform to its own, which enables users to discover multiple formats from multiple content sources. Leveraging tools from both platforms, users can discover search results that include ebrary's ebook content along with ProQuest's relevant reports, videos, and articles, and access the full text of the result from either source.

Springer Science+Business Media launched SpringerReference.com, a new platform for researchers and both academic and corporate libraries. The site offers editions of Springer's e-references well in advance of their print editions across every subject. Scientists can use the platform to submit updates to articles whenever they want. SpringerReference.com is designed to offer a way to quickly publish major reference works, which need to be constantly updated.

Credo Reference and Elsevier have teamed up to add 45 new health sciences titles to the Credo Reference Subject Collections. Launched with eight initial collections this spring, the subject collections are subject-specific reference titles curated and compiled by library professionals.

EBSCO Publishing is transitioning its ebook titles to EBSCOhost, for availability starting in July of this year. Corporations will be able to make their ebooks and research materials more accessible to researchers through a more powerful search experience. Ebooks will be searchable through EBSCOhost, learning management systems, and corporate portals.

Credo Reference and Ex Libris Group, a provider of library automation solutions, announced that content from Credo's General Reference, Publisher, and Subject Collections will now be accessible through the Ex Libris Primo Central Index of scholarly content. The agreement allows Primo search results to include both Credo Reference content and Credo Topic Pages.

EBSCO Publishing merged with the H.W. Wilson Company to improve discovery services for libraries. EBSCO databases will have enhanced indexing because the Wilson controlled vocabularies will be integrated into EBSCO's controlled vocabularies. Subscribers of Wilson databases will be able to search the EBSCO Discovery Service for all Wilson indexing, abstracts, and full text.

Paratext added links to the reference works from the Sharpe Online Reference collection to Reference Universe, a resource that contains nearly 50,000 scholarly subject encyclopedias and other reference titles. Sharpe Online Reference (SOLR) includes the titles that make up the U.S. and Global History and Culture collections and combines award-wining subject coverage with online research.

ProQuest acquired BNI, a database for nursing and midwifery in the U.K. BNI - shortened from British Nursing Index -- has been compiled through a partnership of the libraries at Bournemouth University, Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the Royal College of Nursing and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. ProQuest built a long-term relationship with BNI through its distribution via Dialog, its business unit serving the professional market.

Gale, part of Cengage Learning, partnered with TheGreenInterview.com to offer video interviews on a range of environmental issues as part of GREENR, Gale's electronic reference resource on sustainability, environment, energy, green technology, and natural resources. TheGreenInterview.com offers transcripts and audio files of the interviews, and biographies of the interviewees.

Gale, part of Cengage Learning, debuted its Gale World Scholar line with Gale World Scholar: Latin America and the Caribbean. The product is the first in a new family of Gale World Scholar regional resources. Gale World Scholar combines historical and contemporary references with archival materials and information on current events in a context-intelligent manner. Gale World Scholar seeks to provide users with a comprehensive picture of a particular region of the world, including insight into daily life, culture, traditions, its inhabitants, and a detailed chronicle of both history and the present day.

Springer acquired RTS-Recherche Transports Sécurité, a French journal on traffic and transport safety, previously published by Lavoisier. The official journal of IFSTTAR, RTS intends to secure a position as the leading resource in the transport and traffic field. Springer's distribution channels will enable RTS to increase its readership and visibility among international French-speaking researchers.

Ex Libris Group is adding content from ABC-CLIO to its Primo Central Index of scholarly content. The Primo Central Index is a cloud-based service that encompasses hundreds of millions of scholarly resources from numerous information providers, and is offered as an integral part of the Ex Libris Primo discovery and delivery platform.

Electronic publisher Alexander Street Press announced plans to launch an integrated online repository of academic video titles. Alexander Street plans to expand its offerings to include more than 10,000 titles in 2011, followed by a further expansion to 20,000 titles by 2013. The integrated online repository, Academic Video Online Complete, will also let subscribers cross-search videos throughout the platform from a single interface.

Springer is launching the Journal of Environmental Studies and Sciences (JESS), the official publication of the Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences (AESS). Starting in Spring 2011, the journal will be available both in print and on Springer's online platform, SpringerLink.

ProQuest introduced the ProQuest History Vault, a digital archive which will store primary source content from University Publications of America (UPA). UPA resources, digitized for the first time, are being released in modules that match course curricula. Original archival arrangement schemes were preserved, and metadata records and PDFs of the original documents are packaged together at the archival folder level, replicating the experience of browsing through archival boxes.

EBSCO Publishing released 26 new ebook subject sets, which span arts and humanities, business and economics, information technology, personal growth and how-to, social sciences, science and technology, and foreign language. The subject sets are prepackaged sets of titles chosen specifically to meet libraries' needs for new titles focusing on popular, in-demand topics, designed to help libraries easily begin or expand their ebook collections.

Beginning in 2011, Springer and the Brazilian Physical Society (SBF) will collaborate to publish the society's official publication, the Brazilian Journal of Physics. The journal presents research on a variety of topics in physics, both from scientists based in Brazil and elsewhere in the world.

Gale, part of Cengage Learning, and Portico, a part of the not-for-profit organization ITHAKA, announced that Gale will be preserving three additional digital historical collections with Portico. This follows the completed adoption of 10 Gale Digital Collections, including 19th Century U.S. Newspapers, The Making of Modern Law: Primary Resources and Eighteenth Century Collections Online. The collection represents over 80 million files, which doubled the size of the Portico archive in just one year.

An agreement between EBSCO and IGI Global will allow metadata for 131 journals and more than 1,500 reference books to be added to the base index of EDS. IGI Global is an international publishing company that specializes in scholarly research publications and databases. Metadata that will be available via EDS includes IGI Global's peer reviewed journals, which focus on information/computer science and technology applied to business and public administration, engineering, education, medicine and healthcare, and social sciences.
