ProQuest Information and Learning has announced an expanded agreement with publisher Real Times Inc. to digitize historical content from The Chicago Defender, a national African-American newspaper, as part of ProQuest scholarly databases. The resource will be available to libraries, government organizations, and educational institutions, as well as other research organizations.

Atlantic Broadband, a digital video and high speed Internet provider, has announced plans to launch a new portal for all Atlantic Broadband High-Speed Internet customers and premium VIP Internet service. Atlantic Broadband tapped Synacor, a private-label provider of online services and content, in a multi-year alliance for its new Internet platform and premium content.

Scripps Networks has announced plans for the first of several broadband channels to be launched over the next year, each featuring specific programming within its existing lifestyle categories for direct delivery to targeted consumers and affinity groups via the Internet. Scripps Networks will introduce two to three broadband channels in 2005 with plans to launch as many as 10 over the next two years.

Publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. has announced the launch of a new program to digitize back issues of all its journal holdings, dating back to the 1800s, on Wiley InterScience, its online publishing platform. Wiley's digitization of legacy content is an ongoing project designed to improve the research pathway and ensure content discovery is as seamless and time efficient as possible.

Oxford Journals, a division of Oxford University Press (OUP), has announced its latest Open Access (OA) project, Oxford Open. Commencing July 2005, it will offer an optional author-pays model to authors of accepted papers in a range of Oxford Journals titles. Oxford Journals has also amended its post-prints policy to be compliant with the latest National Institutes of Health (NIH) Public Access Policy.

The Thomson Scientific unit of The Thomson Corporation announced that Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI) will now include Indian patents, both pre-grant applications and granted patents. The inclusion of Indian patents in DWPI follows the culmination of the government's long process of amending India's national patent laws to ensure they conform to Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) norms.

JSTOR has announced a new Biological Sciences Collection that will contain the complete back-runs of at least 100 scholarly journals in the field.
