Infogroup, a provider of resources for targeted sales and marketing solutions, announced its acquisition by affiliates of CCMP Capital Advisors, LLC, along with a new executive leadership team and Board of Directors. Clare Hart, who most recently served as president of the Dow Enterprise Media Group, has been named Infogroup's president and CEO. Rich Zannino, CCMP's Managing Director, will serve as the chairman of Infogroup's new Board of Directors.

Guardian News & Media released a WordPress plugin that lets bloggers republish content from guardian.co.uk on their own sites free of chage. The Guardian news feed plug-in, which was developed using the Guardian's award-winning Open Platform, is the first full-article news feed plug-in to be released by a major publisher.

This means that the entire collection of SpringerOpen journals is fully and immediately open access, and is accessible to anyone with an internet connection without a subscription.

A merger agreement between EDGAR Online, Inc., and UBmatrix, Inc. resulted in the creation of a global end-to-end provider of solutions for the creation, validation and analysis of extensible business reporting language (XBRL) content. Under the terms of the merger, UBmatrix will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of EDGAR Online.

EndNote X4 lets researchers import and search PDF files, as well as take advantage of new Cite While You Write features that automatically links in-text citations to Microsoft Word bibliographies.

OCLC and the National Diet Library (NDL) signed an agreement to make more than 5 million records from NDL more visible and accessible to scholars and researchers worldwide through WorldCat. This new agreement provides for the contribution of the complete contents of the JAPAN/MARC database, the official national bibliography of Japan, to WorldCat on a regular basis.

I never did believe that information wanted to be free ... just respected for more than its good looks. Apparently, no one else got the memo. Econtent, in and of itself, often isn't seen as particularly valuable. We can find the same material elsewhere on the web if we look hard enough, or we can find something else that we perceive as good enough. For information-and access to it-to be priced profitably, the value of the content must be readily apparent.
