Springer is releasing a new product line known as SpringerBriefs, featuring compact volumes of between 50 and 125 pages, which will be available in both ebook and print formats. SpringerBriefs will focus on a variety of subject matter, from professional to academic, including topics such as life sciences, mathematics, and business.

Wolters Kluwer Germany Holding GmbH announced that it will acquire LexisNexis Deutschland GmbH. The transaction, which Wolters Kluwer Germany says will expand its online legal services portfolio, is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close by the end of the year.

Online reference library Credo Reference is expanding its agreement with the Berkshire Publishing Group. Five major Berkshire resources, 31 volumes in all, will be available for the first time through the Credo Publisher Collection service. Berkshire Publishing specializes in international relations, cross-cultural communication, global business and economic information, and environmental sustainability.

The IP Solutions business of Thomson Reuters is showing off the upcoming Japanese Language Search functionality in Thomson Innovation, the company's intellectual property research and analysis program. The Japanese search capability will be publicly available in December and will let researchers search Japanese patent documents in Japanese and seamlessly link to global patent content for comprehensive research.

Cambridge Journals Online, the online publishing service for journals at Cambridge University Press, has launched a mobile version to help readers browse or carry out research on the move. CJO Mobile (CJOm) offers a streamlined version of the journals platform CJO and allows users to search for journal content, read articles, save favorite articles, and register for journal content alerts on their hand-held devices. Anything saved in mobile can be picked up again when back at a desktop machine, and vice versa.

STM publisher Elsevier released Image Search, a new SciVerse ScienceDirect feature that helps users find images and figures relevant to their specific research objectives.The new feature lets researchers search more than 15 million images contained within SciVerse ScienceDirect. Results include tables, photos, figures, graphs and videos from trusted, peer-reviewed sources.

EBSCO Publishing released Jewish Studies Source, a full-text database devoted to the study of Judaism. The database offers a multidisciplinary look at the study of Jewish civilization from its historical origins to the present, covering a variety of areas of study, including archaeology, anthropology, area studies, ethnic studies, history, languages, philosophy, political science, religious studies, and women's studies.

Safari Books Online released a free global iPad app called Safari To Go. The app allows Safari Books online subscribers to view book content on their iPad. While the app is similar in function to the Safari Books Online app currently available for the iPhone, iPod touch, BlackBerry, and Android mobile devices, the company reports that it built the iPad app from the ground up.

Thomson Reuters released the BoardLink iPad app, a productivity tool for boards of directors and corporate secretaries that will allow these users to make informed decisions while out of the office, in addition to helping the business meet compliance and regulatory obligations. Among the key features of the app are its ability to keep documents organized from one board to the next, the delivery of timely headlines and articles dealing with emerging business and legal trends, and board and company meeting tracking.

Online reference library Credo Reference signed an agreement with Johns Hopkins University Press to integrate their Encyclopedia of American Studies (EAS) into the Credo General Reference service. Johns Hopkins University Press is the latest university press to make reference content available on the Credo Reference platform.

Springer is becoming the exclusive distributor of the ebook versions of titles published by Wageningen Academic Publishers. The electronic versions of the Wageningen Academic Publishers' titles will become part of the Springer eBook packages, available on Springer's SpringerLink service.

Life-sciences publisher CABI and Semantico completed a project to open a large number of CAB Direct's life sciences abstracts to the Google search engine. This move vastly increases the visibility of the information the platform provides, and the companies have announced that it has more than doubled the usage of the CAB Direct platform.

Gale, a part of Cengage Learning, launched two new mobile apps: AccessMyLibrary Public Edition for Android, and AccessMyLibrary College Edition for iOS. The AccessMyLibrary (AML) family of apps allows students to more easily find credible library reference sources, rather than manually sift through sources that may or may not be reliable.

OCLC is releasing a new OCLC Research prototype, WorldCat Publisher Pages. The prototype tool presents a page each for more than 1800 publishers from around the world and is an outgrowth of the OCLC Publisher Name Authority File, as well as the OCLC WorldMap and the OCLC Audience Level activities.

EBSCO Publishing announced that ABC-CLIO ebooks are now available through the EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). Users who already subscribe to both EDS and ABC-CLIO's eBook Collection will be able to access all content in ABC-CLIO's library through a single search box in EDS, simplifying the research process.
