Hearst Magazines hired former Men's Health and Women's Health publisher Jack Essig as its new senior VP, publishing director, and chief revenue officer for Esquire. Essig will also be responsible for overseeing Popular Mechanics and Car and Driver/Road & Track, although those publications will remain under the tutelage of their current respective publishers.

thePlatform named Simon McGrath as its General Manager for Europe and promoted Darren Grimstead to Director of European Sales. McGrath has more than 20 years of experience with strategic operations at global companies, including stints with SeaChange and On Demand Group. Grimstead has been a part of thePlatform's team for the past 8 years, most recently serving as Director, Media & Entertainment Sales.

LYRASIS elected four librarians to its Board of Trustees. The newly elected members are Siobhan Reardon of the Free Library of Philadelphia, Cynthia Roberts of the Community College of Baltimore County, Jay Schafer of the University of Massachusetts, and Julia Zimmerman of Florida State University. Reardon and Roberts come aboard as at-large board members, while Schafer and Zimmerman will serve as Academic Research Library Board members.

ProQuest named Kurt Sanford as its new CEO, replacing former CEO Marty Kahn, who has led the company since its 2007 acquisition by Cambridge Information Group. Kahn will remain with the company in the capacity of vice chairman of ProQuest's board of directors. Prior to joining ProQuest, Sanford was the president of global operations for LexisNexis, and also held a variety of other executive and leadership positions through the company.

Marmanis is the author of two books, Algorithms of the Intelligent Web and Spend Analysis: The Window into Strategic Sourcing, and previously served as CTO of Emptoris.
