Elsevier B.V. and iSpeech collaborated to develop an audio reader application for SciVerse Applications beta. iSpeech, provider of cloud-based speech technology and mobile apps, devised its Audio Reader as an enhancement for the SciVerse ScienceDirect content, enabling researchers to listen to scientific articles.
Intended to improve researchers' workflows, the iSpeech Audio Reader application converts any full-text article within ScienceDirect into a natural-sounding voice file. Articles can be converted to MP3 files and then listened to on any MP3 friendly device. The application came about after graduate students at the New Jersey Institute of Technology designed an "SV Social" application that allowed users to mark a favorite article, share across social networks, and convert text to speech.
