iAnywhere Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc., has announced the upcoming release of AvantGo for the BlackBerry platform from Research In Motion (RIM). AvantGo for BlackBerry is intended to give millions of Blackberry users the latest business, sports, and entertainment news all optimized for their Blackberry devices. AvantGo for BlackBerry will be available for general release within the next 30 days.
The free service will wirelessly connect BlackBerry users to specially formatted brand-name Web sites ("channels") including AccuWeather, Bloomberg, CNET, Forbes, Hollywood.com, The Golf Channel, Reuters, RollingStone.com, The Sporting News, Wired News, and more. Users can also create personal channels to view family sites, local news, niche sites, church and club sites, workout schedules, and others. A pre-release version is currently available for users at www.avantgo.com/rim; a free AvantGo account is required.
iAnywhere has also launched its Mobile Sales for BlackBerry Early Adopter Program. Mobile Sales, which extends custom and packaged CRM systems such as those from Salesforce.com and Siebel to handheld devices, will offer support for BlackBerry devices from Research In Motion. Participants of the Early Adopter Program will gain early access to the pre-release software to take advantage of wireless features such as push updates and trickle synchronization.
