The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (OH) has launched an eBook service intended to stimulate awareness and adoption of emerging technologies in the community. The new system was built by OverDrive, Inc. and funded entirely with bequest monies. Patrons can visit the site and browse hundreds of eBooks from publishers including HarperCollins, Time Warner, John Wiley, and others. Selections can be checked out and downloaded to PCs, laptops, Tablet PCs, and PDA devices 24 hours a day. The eBooks are designed to automatically check themselves back into the collection. In addition, patrons can place titles on hold and receive automatic email notification when they become available for downloading.
