BEST PRACTICES SERIES

Wright Memorial Public Library, named for the family of Orville and Wilbur Wright, the inventors of the airplane, is now offering ebooks to patrons through Wright Memorial's new Digital Library Collection at www.wright.lib.oh.us (click on Library Catalog).  Located in the City of Oakwood, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton, Ohio, the library partnered with digital media company OverDrive, Inc. to bring their patrons 24/7 access to eBook titles available for reading on PCs, notebooks, and PDA devices.

The Wright Memorial Digital Library Collection offers patrons access to hundreds of titles from publishers such as AOL Time Warner Book Group, HarperCollins, McGraw-Hill, John Wiley & Sons, RosettaBooks, Zondervan, and others. All a patron needs is a library card, an Internet connection, and free eBook reader software from Adobe Systems Inc. or Palm Digital Media.

The eBook lending service was first implemented by the Cleveland Public Library (www.cpl.org) in April 2003. In addition to Cleveland Public Library, Wright Memorial Public Library joins King County Library System, Youngstown Public Library, Essex County Public Library (UK), Burlington County Public Library (NJ) and others that are adding OverDrive's Digital Library solutions.

Wright Memorial's new Digital Library collection enables the library to eventually add their own digitized titles to the collection such as local newspapers or archived documents, as well as support for circulating copyrighted digital audio books and other multimedia file formats.
