According to the Wordpress.com blog, the popular blogging and website building tool is partnering with Federated Media to offer the opportunity to advertise to its bloggers. According to the post:
"We've resisted advertising so far because most of it we had seen wasn't terribly tasteful, and it seemed like Google's AdSense was the state-of-the-art, which was sad. You pour a lot of time and effort into your blog and you deserve better than AdSense."
Wordpress.orf users have long been able to download AdSense plug-ins and display advertising on their sites, but Wordpress.com users were left out in the advertising cold with no way to monetize their sites -- even the most wildly popular ones. Now, though, the Wordpress team thinks "we've cracked it, and we're calling it WordAds."
Interested bloggers can fill out a form and join the AdWords program. However, you must have a custom domain to participate in the program and not all will be selected: "Selection will be based on level of traffic and engagement, type of content, and language used on a blog."
