The New York Public Library has launched a federated search solution powered by WebFeat. The WebFeat system is designed to enable NYPL patrons to search nearly 400 licensed electronic resources, the NYPL website, and LEO and CATNYP. WebFeat is also designed to enable federated searching of the NYPL Digital Gallery--a repository of over 550,000 images from the Library's research collections and The New York Public Library’s Picture Collection Online--a collection of 30,000 digitized public domain images from books, magazines, and newspapers as well as original photographs, prints, and postcards, most created prior to 1923. WebFeat may be accessed from within any of NYPL’s four research libraries or any of the 87 branch libraries.

Users with a valid New York Public Library card can access WebFeat remotely from any internet connected computer by visiting the library's website. NYPL’s WebFeat system has been designed with a multi-library profiling capability that displays appropriate resource menus depending on library, branch, and user type. The system includes five unique NYPL branch profiles, as well as profiles for NYPL’s research libraries. These libraries include: the Science, Industry, and Business Library, Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Humanities and Social Sciences Library, and The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. The NYPL system has been designed with WebFeat QuickSearch search boxes, which are embedded in various NYPL web pages and provide single search box options for accessing resources, while basic, advanced, and subject category interfaces provide alternate options for researchers. WebFeat is also compatible with the Library’s foreign language sources and enables patrons to search a whole category of Spanish-only resources.
