Thomson Gale, part of The Thomson Corporation, has announced the addition of Biography Resource Center: African Americans to its list of database reference products.
Biography Resource Center: African Americans offers nearly 30,000 narrative and thumbnail biographies about historic and contemporary African American figures such as Harriet Tubman, Tiger Woods, Rosa Parks, Usher, and Condoleezza Rice, from the Thomson Gale sources available in the Biography Resource Center. Biographies can be searched using Name, Biographical Facts, and Advanced Search paths. This database also includes recent news briefs, links to nearly 250 vetted Web sites, approximately 2,000 portraits, and more than 42,000 full-text periodicals articles from nearly 300 magazines.
The new Biography Resource Center: African Americans contains all of the biographies found in almost sixty volumes of six Thomson Gale reference sources: Contemporary Black Biography, Notable Black American Men, Notable Black American Scientists, Notable Black American Women, St. James Guide to Black Artists and Who's Who Among African Americans.
Thomson Gale has also announced the release of the second edition of Encyclopedia of African-American Culture and History as an eBook. Readers looking for information about black history, notable figures and accomplishments now have a current and highly detailed reference to address their needs. Readers can explore the social movements, languages, religions, and family structures in the context of an inter-disciplinary framework. While many articles from the original set have updated content and bibliographies, almost half of the second edition is composed of completely new scholarship.
