The Kidney Stone Center of the Rocky Mountains, in Denver, CO, has contracted Boulder Corporation, to develop and deploy a solution and management application to enhance the Center's services to its clients and alleviate its increasing data management needs. Boulder Corporation, an IT consulting firm, system integrator, and developer, performed a study of the Kidney Stone Center's current systems, providing recommendations, engineering expertise, and created a development plan designed to solve the Center's problems. In addition to developing a viable data management solution, Boulder Corporation took on the task of developing an answer for the secure transmission of digital x-rays electronically. This way the x-rays can be transferred quickly and efficiently between physicians and hospitals in a fully secure environment. Meeting the needs of the Kidney Stone Center not only required a technological know how for Boulder Corporation, it also required conforming and meeting the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, to be implemented in 2003.
