Members of the electronic communications, compliance, and law communities have joined together to form The Electronic Communications Compliance Council (TE3C), a group dedicated to providing best practices and resources to companies grappling with email and instant messaging (IM) policies and compliance. The Electronic Communications Compliance Council (TE3C) is an industry-supported organization whose mission is to educate and inform users about the electronic communications compliance life cycle, provide guidance on how to minimize risk in an evolving regulatory and legal environment, and provide a conduit of communication between all stakeholders in the electronic communications compliance community.

Founding members of the council include Priscilla Emery, president and founder of e-Nterprise Advisors, Nancy Flynn, founder and executive director of the ePolicy Institute; Richard Marshall, partner, Kirkpatrick & Lockhart; Peter Mafteiu, director of operations, BKD Wealth Advisors; and Paul Chen, president and CEO of Fortiva Inc.

TE3C has also announced a limited-time free offer of the Policy Builder by Fortiva, an online tool that offers a template solution from which businesses can create their own customized email policy. The Policy Builder is available on the council's Web site.

Through regular meetings, roundtables, industry and usage surveys, workgroups, and other educational forums, TE3C will work to highlight issues and trends in electronic communications compliance and conduct. In addition, the TE3C Web site will provide links to white papers and educational information and a forum for those stakeholders that are looking to clarify industry regulations that affect electronic communications.
