Telestream, a provider of file-based workflow automation solutions for the broadcast and entertainment industry, has announced two new products as well as enhancements to its FlipFactory software product line. FlipFactory Mobile automates high-volume media encoding and delivery for the mobile distribution markets. FactoryArray delivers continuous job processing for demanding and critical customer workflows. Version 5.0 software adds support for Autodesk's Media & Entertainment Division systems products, and more. The new FlipFactory products and enhancements are slated for June 2006 availability.

Telestream's new FlipFactory Mobile automates high-volume media encoding for these evolving mobile distribution outlets. Support for mobile and Web video and audio formats includes H.264, iPod, QuickTime 7, Windows Media VC-1, 3GPP, Real, MPEG-4, MP3, AAC, AMR, and more. Telestream's FactoryArray ensures continuous, 24/7 job processing in critical environments. FactoryArray extends any FlipFactory, TrafficManager, or GraphicsFactory product from a single server to servers working together to process jobs in a secure manner. Intelligent load balancing distributes jobs across Factory servers. Failover protection ensures that if any one server should fail, the remaining servers will continue to process jobs without interruption. Database mirroring backs up job workflow information and provides automatic recovery mechanisms for all workflows. Distributed control is designed to ensure there is no single point of failure in FactoryArray that will ever bring a system down.

These new products will be available with the FlipFactory version 5.0 software release this June. A key new feature is transcoding support for Autodesk's Media & Entertainment Division systems products, including: Autodesk Stone file system, Discreet Smoke editing/finishing system, as well as Discreet Inferno, Discreet Flame and Discreet Flint visual effects, and compositing systems. Editing system file format support expands in version 5.0 to include Final Cut Pro IMX, DV50 and HDV, Apple Xsan on FibreChannel and Avid MXF decode. Camera support includes decoding of Grass Valley Infinity DV25 and JPEG2000, XDCAM HD and DVCProHD. Media server support expands to include Omneon MXF, Leitch MXF and HD, EVS HD, full support for Grass Valley K2, and SeaChange BML.

Telestream has also announced its newest workflow automation solution. GraphicsFactory enables content owners, aggregators, and distributors to brand and repurpose media for new distribution channels. GraphicsFactory is a new software solution that automates graphics assembly in file-based workflows. A "build once, apply to many" model offers a means to personalize media, add promos, brand, and localize media for high-volume distribution requirements. Layered graphics templates can include text, images and drop shadows, along with fade-ins/fade-outs and QuickTime movies that start and stop on a timeline. GraphicsFactory is built on Telestream's transcode engine, so the output can be flipped into virtually any file format to meet distribution needs. With GraphicsFactory, an editor builds a graphics template once, and then hands it off to an assistant who applies metadata to tailor the template for each video asset. Graphics and source video files are then submitted to GraphicsFactory for automatic processing, transcoding to required formats, and delivery to distribution servers.

GraphicsFactory supports professional file formats, so it will automatically pull original source files from most video archives, perform the graphics overlays and transcode directly to the destination formats--all without having to move media between different formats and systems. GraphicsFactory also offers an XML interface that enables fully automated integration of metadata into the graphics assembly workflow. In these instances, an editor creates a graphics template and then drives the graphics production process using metadata supplied from external systems. GraphicsFactory is offered as a standalone product providing automated graphics assembly, transcoding and delivery, or as an upgrade to existing FlipFactory systems. GraphicsFactory is a scalable software application that runs on standard Windows 2003 or XP Pro servers. It is slated for release this June.
