Summus, Inc., a developer of applications and information processing tools for the wireless multimedia experience, and AP Digital, a division of The Associated Press that provides news and multimedia information to interactive markets, have announced the launch of a new wireless news application. Developed by Summus, the application called AP Photos, News & Sports is now commercially available to subscribers through participating wireless carriers. With AP Photos, News & Sports, subscribers can use their mobile phones to view three channels of AP news. 'Top News' contains headlines, photos and stories. 'World' and 'Sports' offer general news photos and captions. The application is powered by BlueFuel, Summus' Superfast, Superthin platform designed for easy interaction with information in the mobile environment, enabling quick transfer of digital photos and updated news text. AP Photos, News & Sports was developed for QUALCOMM's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW) platform. The application is also available on J2ME. It is available to wireless carriers for provision to their subscribers and a number of national carriers have already signed on.
