Springer announced the purchase of the Asia Europe Journal from The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), a long-time partner Springer. ASEF will no longer be associated with the journal, which will be relaunched with new editors-in-chief and refocused on its core topics. The journal will further promote discussion on the challenges and opportunities of a common future of Asia and Europe.

The Asia Europe Journal: Studies on Common Policy Challenges was launched in 2003 by ASEF in co-operation with Springer as one of the foundation's flagship projects. It was accepted for the Social Sciences Citation Index in 2010, and publishes research papers as well as topical policy briefs and thought pieces. Topics include issues of bi-regional interest, including management and political economy, innovation, security studies, regional and global governance, as well as socio-cultural developments and historical events.
