Scientific publisher, Springer, announced plans to extend the period of free access to its online platform in Haiti through the year 2015. This will give over 15,000 students and researchers in the country access to Springer's scientific content from 2,000 research-level scientific journals including French-language editions.
The digital library project is being set up by Bibliotheques sans Frontieres in partnership with the State University of Haiti. Springer believes giving Haitians access to the journals will assist the educational goals of the country as it continues to rebuild after the devastating 2010 earthquake.
Scientific publisher, Springer Science + Business Media, announced the company has acquired UK-based Canopus Academic Publishing. Canopus is a publisher that specializes in the subjects of physics and astronomy. With this acquisition, Springer will absorb more than 50 published or planned works.
