Softbank Invests $200 Million in InMobi

Sep 15, 2011

Mobile ad network InMobi announced that it raised $200 million in its latest funding round from Softbank Corp., a Japanese company. The investment is the largest of the year in the mobile sector, and one of the biggest venture capital deals of the entire year. InMobi will receive $100 million this month, and the rest in April 2012.

Though mobile advertising is only a small part of mobile-generated revenues, this move reveals high expectations for mobile ads in the future as smartphones and tablets become increasingly prevalent. InMobi will reportedly stay fully independent throughout the investment, which will be used for hiring, acquisitions, and research and development in new mobile ad technology.
