Feb 19, 2010

The Software and Information Industry Association announced the settlement of a content piracy suit against a small company in Ann Arbor, Mich. The company, In the Know, Inc., is a manufacturer of plaques and displays and had reprinted newspaper and magazine articles on plaques without permission. The SIIA announced that the case was settled in exchange for a five-figure sum and cooperation from the company in an internal program to help avoid future infringement.

The case was undertaken by the SIIA's Corporate Content Anti-Piracy (CCAP) program, which pursues corporate or organizational copyright infringement of members' content, including newspapers, magazines, books, and newsletters. The SIIA also offers rewards ranging from $500 to $1 million to eligible individuals in return for reporting cases of infringement.
