Twitter is releasing, on a limited trial basis, a "retweet" button that allows users to forward tweets to their followers more easily. The idea is that retweeting will send the hot topics in the Twittersphere from user to user more quickly and efficiently. Retweeting, which has been in the works for some time, is available now to a few users, and if the experiment goes well, it will spread to all Twitterers.
Also in the interest of keeping the most relevant topics in the public's eye, Twitter is working on ways to filter trends to keep the most relevant tweets at the center of discussion. The changes will be gradual, Twitter spokesperson Jenna Dawn wrote in a blog post, though over time the filter should improve the search experience by separating the relevant tweets from the detritus.
