ProQuest Information and Learning has released a digital archive for capturing rich historical data from American businesses. ProQuest Historical Annual Reports leverages ProQuest's interface, creating desk-top access to business information dating from the mid-1800's to present day. The archive comprises 160 years of continuous coverage for more than 700 American corporations.
Historical content comes from sources including ProQuest's digitized microfiche collection, as well as content partners like Purdue University and Harvard Business School. Data from 1995 forward is provided by Mergent, Inc, a provider of business and financial data on global publicly listed companies. The collection will continue to grow as new reports are added annually. Historical Annual Reports contains the records for industries, including manufacturing, insurance, transportation, oil and gas, food and beverage, and retail. Coverage spans the history of American businesses including: Mutual Life of New York (160 years), Ford Motor Company (93 years), General Electric Company (112 years), Coca Cola Company (85 years), Texaco (85 years), and Sears Roebuck & Co. (98 years).
All report text is searchable, and special indexing makes key data accessible for analysis and trending. The interface allows users to find search terms on the page through hit term highlighting inside the PDF image. Historical Annual Reports integrates with other ProQuest databases such as ABI/INFORM, a business database. It also will be fully cross-searchable with other academic research tools like ProQuest Historical Newspapers and the American Periodical Series Online. Cross-searching produces results by integrating social commentary, analysis, and primary financial sources into a single answer set.
