PhatWare Corporation, a provider of software products and professional services for mobile and desktop computers, has begun shipping PhatPad for Windows Mobile software for Pocket PC. PhatPad is a note taking application optimized for the latest Windows Mobile Pocket PC platforms and designed to allow users to take handwritten notes anywhere.

PhatPad uses a digital ink technology that is designed to provide extremely smooth ink flow. The product allows users to draw pictures, jot text notes, or put a mix of pictures and text on a virtual scratch pad. PhatPad offers a user interface that supports a range of editing commands including zoom and special fit to screen mode, 39-color pen palette, variable pen width, and up to 1,000 handwritten pages per file. Notes and drawings can be exported as bitmap or jpeg images, emailed as file attachments, and transferred to other Pocket PCs via infrared.

With PhatWare's CalliGrapher handwriting recognition product installed on the Pocket PC, PhatPad recognizes handwritten notes and converts them to plain text. It also offers the ability to search handwritten notes for specific text. CalliGrapher is available as a separate product.

PhatPad for Pocket PC is currently available for purchase from the PhatWare company Web site, or from any of PhatWare's network of authorized retailers. The product carries a list price of $19.95; for a limited time, however, customers can purchase PhatPad at an introductory price of $9.95.
