Ovid Technologies, a provider of electronic medical, scientific, and social sciences information solutions, has announced enhancements to its electronic books platform 3/4 Books@Ovid. Books@Ovid is designed to allow researchers, clinicians, students, and information managers to quickly and effectively find answers to questions. The new search and browse features—such as natural language search capability, relevance ranking, and back-of-the-book index browsing—are intended to maximize research precision and speed. Books@Ovid is now fully integrated with Journals@Ovid and Ovid bibliographic databases, thereby giving users access to search across the entire Ovid content repository and access to the full range of Ovid tools including ask-a-librarian and personal accounts, as well as Ovid's linking to full text journals, bibliographic records, and external Web resources.
Books@Ovid users can view full text articles found in those journals and books to which their institution subscribes; and also have the option to purchase journal articles through Ovid's PayPerView service. In addition, Books@Ovid includes ongoing updates of selected titles such as those provided for Primary Care Medicine (Goroll and Mulley from Lippincott Williams & Wilkins) and support for multi-media and electronic only text. New functionality and tools in Books@Ovid include: Single, expandable table of contents--Integrates the book and chapter tables of contents and is always visible in full text view; in addition, tables and figures are identified separately within the table of contents for integration into the user's work. Improved browsing capabilities--Enables users to browse by subject as well as title; when browsing by title, links are organized alphabetically. Enhanced Search--Allows users to limit results by specialty (nursing, cardiology, etc.) as well as book type for further precision (e.g. comprehensive texts, drug manuals, or clinical handbooks); search results are ranked by relevance. Ovid JumpStarts--Book topic links within the text can be created and allows users to email links to a specific location within the book.
