Apple appears to be adding native ads to its Apple News feeds. Business Insider reported that the company updated a developer specification document to include native ads. Sponsored content will appear directly in news feeds with regular news stories.
The only way to differentiate one of these ads will be a tag that says "sponsored." This change isn't quite as big as it may seem. Publishers participate in Apple news via RSS feed, and some of the content being fed into Apple News may already be sponsored content. Publishers need to mark it as such in the metadata, or may find themselves suspended from the network.
