iPhrase, a provider of self-service search and navigation software, has announced that National Semiconductor has deployed iPhrase One Step to provide self-service search and navigation across its two recently announced Web initiatives: solutions.national.com and Knowledge Base. In addition to providing access to all technical information in National's new Knowledge Base, One Step will facilitate access to detailed system design information on Solutions.National.com. National's solutions.national.com site provides a suite of design tools, interactive product selectors, and online information. National implemented One Step in an effort to allow its customers to reduce the time-to-market for new products by providing better navigation for National Semiconductor's online product catalog.

Knowledge Base (knowledgebase.national.com) contains thousands of integrated circuits, many of which have more than 300 attributes and data on more than 10,000 products, 2000 data sheets, 400 application notes, white papers and other information in a variety of formats. Engineers and technical buyers access this resource to find and purchase specific parts for a variety of devices such as cell phones, notebook computers, displays and other products. It also offers access to 1,820 data sheets, 750 application notes, 350 frequently asked questions (FAQs), and the National Edge online monthly magazine. The Knowledge Base search engine, powered by iPhrase One Step, lets an engineer ask concept-driven questions in natural language. The system interprets the request, retrieves the most pertinent data from multiple sources, and generates a results page tailored to the user's query. The system recognizes abbreviations, variations in spelling, or language usages.

National's other One Step implementation, Solutions.National.com is an interactive online design support environment that assists users in finding the best products for an application. It features 30 color-coded block diagrams that are organized for specific applications in eight major market categories: automotive, broadband communications, displays, industrial, medical systems, personal/consumer electronics, power and wireless communications. iPhrase's One Step platform allows engineers to navigate, find, and select National products grouped by market applications. It allows users to conduct visual searches and provides personalized results based on user needs.
