The Association for Information and Dissemination Centers (ASIDIC) Board has expressed interest regarding a potential merger with the National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS), a sister organization founded in 1968 that shares many of the same members. The move follows an April recommendation by the ASIDIC Board of Directors that the organization be dissolved, and a subsequent proposal for merger from the NFAIS.

Under the proposed merger, NFAIS members who paid their ASIDIC membership for 2010 would be given a pro-rated rebate, while other ASIDIC members in good standing would be granted NFAIS membership through June 30, 2011, at which time they would be given the option to continue NFAIS membership with a three-year transition to full NFAIS dues.

The ASIDIC Board of Directors voted unanimously to accept the proposal from the NFAIS, and will now put the recommendation to the ASIDIC membership. The board will hold a series of information meetings with members throughout June and will release a formal ballot via e-mail at the end of the month.
