Seeking a review of the i4i v Microsoft patent infringement case by the U.S. Supreme Court, Microsoft filed a petition for a writ of certiorari. The U.S. Supreme Court has complete discretion as to whether or not it will choose to review the case.
Microsoft was sued by i4i for patent infringement in March 2007, with a jury finding the patent infringed upon by Microsoft in May 2009, awarding the company payment of damages to i4i. In August 2009, a final judgment was issued against Microsoft that included a permanent injunction and an award of damages in excess of $290 million to i4i. Microsoft was unsuccessful in its subsequent appeal to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
