Merant, a provider of software and services that offer flexible control of code, content, and other assets, has announced new versions of the Dimensions change management platform: Dimensions 8 and Dimensions Enterprise Edition. Dimensions 8, delivers improved usability and administration, customizable process models, and a next-generation, fully integrated and automated build solution. Dimensions provides process control, versioning, baseline management, issue management, release management, next-generation build management, and workflow management. Features of Dimensions 8 include a single, enterprise-wide repository, database independence, and native IDE support. Other new or improved capabilities are client usability, enhanced administration tools, integration with Merant's process asset library, and a build capability. Moreover, Dimensions 8 integrates with third-party technologies, such as Mercury Interactive's test management software, TestDirector 7.6, and Telelogic DOORS, a multi-platform, enterprise-wide system for ensuring a project's compliance to specified requirements and standards. Dimensions 8 also features new administrative tools, including an intuitive, Web-based administrative console and a graphical lifecycle designer. Authentication against the LDAP server further simplifies tool administration, and support for industry-standard 128-bit encryption ensures all network traffic is secure inside and outside the firewall.
Merant has also introduced Dimensions Enterprise Edition, an enterprise change management solution capable of supporting mainframe and distributed platforms with a single, enterprise-wide repository. Comprised of Dimensions 8 and two new offerings, Dimensions for z/OS and Merant Build, Dimensions Enterprise Edition gives CIOs and IT and development managers a framework for automating and controlling development processes, business rules, and asset change practices across all enterprise platforms. Dimensions for z/OS, a component of Dimensions Enterprise Edition, replaces Merant's previous mainframe client, and extends the full power and flexibility of Dimensions to the mainframe. Merant Build automates and synchronizes build management activities, while providing cross-platform support for distributed and mainframe environments. By capturing all meta-data associated with electronic assets, processes, issues, and relationships across mainframe and distributed platforms in a single repository, Dimensions Enterprise Edition offers customers greater power and flexibility. Authorized users can view and manage assets, processes and issues from anywhere in the organization, at any time, with a uniform user experience on all platforms. Not only does this reduce the need for platform-specific training and administration, it facilitates advanced reporting and comprehensive, real-time impact analysis of changes to products, programs, and infrastructure. Dimensions 8 and Dimensions Enterprise Edition are available now.
